Angle Weight Calculator

Find the weight of MS angles (L-sections) in kg per meter and per length. Works for equal angles (like 50 × 50 × 6) and unequal angles (like 75 × 50 × 6). Angles are usually sold in 6 m or 20 ft lengths.

Calculated from size and thickness with steel density 7.85. Published IS 808 values include the corner radius and are often about 0.05–0.1 kg/m higher; for example, 50 × 50 × 6 is listed as 4.5 kg/m.

Angle Weight Formula

Weight (kg/m) = (A + B − t) × t × 0.00785

A and B are the leg lengths and t is the thickness, all in mm.

Example: a 50 × 50 × 6 angle weighs (50 + 50 − 6) × 6 × 0.00785 = 4.43 kg/m, or about 26.6 kg for a 6 m length.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the weight of a 50 × 50 × 6 angle?

A 50 × 50 × 6 mm MS angle weighs about 4.43 kg per meter by calculation (IS 808 lists 4.5 kg/m). A 6 m length weighs about 26.6 kg.

What is the weight of a 50 × 50 × 5 angle?

A 50 × 50 × 5 mm angle weighs about 3.73 kg per meter, or about 22.4 kg for 6 m.

What is the weight of a 40 × 40 × 5 angle?

A 40 × 40 × 5 mm angle weighs about 2.94 kg per meter, or about 17.7 kg for 6 m.

What is the weight of a 65 × 65 × 6 angle?

A 65 × 65 × 6 mm angle weighs about 5.84 kg per meter, or about 35.0 kg for 6 m.

What is the weight of a 20 ft iron angle?

Multiply the weight per meter by 6.096. For example, a 50 × 50 × 6 angle of 20 ft weighs about 4.43 × 6.096 = 27.0 kg.

How do I calculate unequal angle weight?

Use the same formula with the two different legs: (A + B − t) × t × 0.00785. A 75 × 50 × 6 angle weighs about 5.60 kg/m.
