MS Chequered Plate Weight Chart
| Base thickness | Base weight per m² | With 5–10% pattern | 1250 × 2500 plate (base) | 1250 × 6300 plate (base) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 mm | 23.55 kg | 24.73 – 25.90 kg | 73.59 kg | 185.46 kg |
| 4 mm | 31.40 kg | 32.97 – 34.54 kg | 98.12 kg | 247.28 kg |
| 5 mm | 39.25 kg | 41.21 – 43.18 kg | 122.66 kg | 309.09 kg |
| 6 mm | 47.10 kg | 49.45 – 51.81 kg | 147.19 kg | 370.91 kg |
| 8 mm | 62.80 kg | 65.94 – 69.08 kg | 196.25 kg | 494.55 kg |
| 10 mm | 78.50 kg | 82.42 – 86.35 kg | 245.31 kg | 618.19 kg |
There is no single standard allowance for the raised pattern; it depends on the pattern and the mill. The base weight uses the plate thickness without the raised pattern. Use your supplier's published kg/m² for billing.
Chequered Plate Weight Formula
Example: a 1250 × 2500 mm chequered plate with a 5 mm base: 1.25 × 2.5 × 5 × 7.85 = 122.66 kg without pattern, or about 128.8 kg with a 5% pattern allowance.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate chequered plate weight?
Multiply length (m) × width (m) × base thickness (mm) × 7.85, then add an allowance for the raised pattern if your supplier uses one (often 5–10%).
What is the weight of a 5 mm chequered plate per square meter?
The base weight of a 5 mm MS chequered plate is 39.25 kg/m². With the raised pattern it is typically about 41–43 kg/m², depending on the mill.
What is the weight of a 6 mm chequered plate?
The base weight of a 6 mm chequered plate is 47.10 kg/m², or about 49.5–51.8 kg/m² with a 5–10% pattern allowance.
What is the weight of a 4 mm chequered plate?
A 4 mm chequered plate has a base weight of 31.40 kg/m², or about 33–34.5 kg/m² including the pattern.
Is chequered plate heavier than plain plate?
Yes, slightly. The raised pattern adds extra steel, so a chequered plate weighs a little more than a plain plate of the same base thickness.
