Weights per meter as listed for ISMB sections in IS 808 / SP 6(1). Some newer tables list slightly different figures for the smaller sizes (for example 24.2 kg/m for ISMB 200), so confirm the billing weight with your supplier. The calculator works from dimensions and ignores the root radius and flange taper, so its answer for a standard ISMB is usually a little lower than the table value.

Beam Weight Formula

Weight (kg/m) = [2 × B × tf + (H − 2 × tf) × tw] × 0.00785

H is the depth, B the flange width, tw the web thickness and tf the flange thickness, all in mm.

Example: a 200 × 100 beam with a 5.7 mm web and 10.8 mm flanges: [2 × 100 × 10.8 + 178.4 × 5.7] × 0.00785 = 24.9 kg/m. The IS 808 value for ISMB 200 is 25.4 kg/m.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the weight of ISMB 200?

ISMB 200 weighs 25.4 kg per meter as per IS 808, so a 6 m length weighs about 152.4 kg and a 12 m length about 304.8 kg.

What is the weight of ISMB 150?

ISMB 150 weighs 14.9 kg per meter, or about 89.4 kg for 6 m.

What is the weight of ISMB 250 and ISMB 300?

ISMB 250 weighs 37.3 kg/m and ISMB 300 weighs 44.2 kg/m as per IS 808.

How do I calculate I-beam weight?

Use [2 × B × tf + (H − 2 × tf) × tw] × 0.00785 with all sizes in mm. The result is kg per meter.

What does ISMB mean?

ISMB stands for Indian Standard Medium weight Beam. The number is the depth in mm, so ISMB 200 is 200 mm deep.
