Dimensions as per IS 808. Weights are calculated from these dimensions with steel density 7.85 and ignore the corner radius and flange taper, so published IS 808 weights are slightly different (for example, ISMC 100 is listed as 9.2 kg/m in older tables and 9.56 kg/m in newer ones). Check with your supplier for billing weight.
Channel Weight Formula
H is the depth, B the flange width, tw the web thickness and tf the flange thickness, all in mm.
Example: ISMC 100 (100 × 50, web 5 mm, flange 7.7 mm) = [100 × 5 + 2 × 45 × 7.7] × 0.00785 = 9.37 kg/m.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate channel weight per meter?
Use [H × tw + 2 × (B − tw) × tf] × 0.00785 with all sizes in mm. The result is kg per meter.
What is the weight of ISMC 100 channel?
ISMC 100 weighs about 9.4 kg per meter by calculation. IS 808 tables list 9.2 kg/m (older) or 9.56 kg/m (newer), because they include the corner radius.
What is the weight of a 100 × 50 channel?
A 100 × 50 channel (ISMC 100) weighs roughly 9.2–9.6 kg per meter depending on the exact section, or about 56 kg for 6 m.
What is the weight of ISMC 150 channel?
ISMC 150 (150 × 75, web 5.7 mm, flange 9 mm) weighs about 16.5 kg per meter by calculation.
What is the weight of ISMC 200 channel?
ISMC 200 (200 × 75, web 6.2 mm, flange 11.4 mm) weighs about 22.0 kg per meter by calculation.
What is the standard length of an MS channel?
MS channels are usually supplied in 6 m or 12 m lengths. Multiply the weight per meter by the length.
