TMT Bar Weight Chart (All Brands)
All major TMT brands in India make bars to IS 1786, so a 12 mm Tata Tiscon, JSW Neosteel or SAIL bar has the same nominal weight: 0.888 kg per meter, or about 10.66 kg for a 12 m bar. One chart works for every brand.

Why Actual Weight Can Differ
Steel is rolled to a size range, not an exact size, so the weight on the weighbridge is rarely exactly the calculated weight.
- TMT bars (IS 1786): the mass per meter may vary by about ±7% for bars up to 10 mm, ±5% for 12–16 mm and ±3% for bars above 16 mm.
- Plates and sheets (IS 1852 / IS 2062): thickness has a rolling tolerance, so a "10 mm" plate can be slightly thicker or thinner.
- Pipes and sections: corner radius, weld seam, zinc coating and end finish (plain or screwed) change the weight a little.
Use the calculated (nominal) weight for estimates and quotations, and the actual weighbridge weight for billing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Tata Tiscon weight different from other brands?
No. Tata Tiscon, JSW, SAIL and other IS 1786 brands have the same nominal weight per meter. For example, 12 mm is 0.888 kg/m for all of them.
What is the weight of a 12 mm TMT bar of 12 m?
About 10.66 kg (0.888 kg/m × 12 m).
What is the weight of an 8 mm TMT bar of 12 m?
About 4.74 kg (0.395 kg/m × 12 m).
Does Fe 500D weigh more than Fe 500?
No. The grade changes strength and ductility, not the size, so the weight per meter is the same.
Why does my TMT bar weigh less than the chart?
IS 1786 allows a small mass tolerance (about ±3–7% depending on size). Bars rolled at the lower end of the tolerance weigh slightly less.
